An Outdoor Cleaning Essential
If you’re serious about car detailing, you’ll probably know all about pressure washers already. However, they’re not just for cars. A pressure washer is a versatile tool that you can use to tackle a massive range of outdoor cleaning jobs. Your washer’s versatility can be further improved by using attachments, which will allow you to tailor its performance to better suit specific jobs. If you know what you’re looking for, browse our great-value pressure washer kits above. If you’re not sure which pressure washer is best for you, or which kit will serve you better, read our buyer’s guide below.
Power isn’t everything, but it certainly helps! How powerful your pressure washer is can be measured with two numbers – its flow rate and max pressure. Flow rate shows you how much water your washer can push through at once, while max pressure is how pressurised it can make it. While not every cleaning job needs an extreme jet of pressurised water, having a pressure washer with a high power ceiling does give you more flexibility if you ever do need a bit more oomph.
Our pressure washers are efficiently designed to give you the most power per watt. This makes them perfect for snow foaming, as they can generate enough pressure to agitate the liquid foam into the thick, clingy foam that sticks to your car. For most cleaning jobs, around 150 bar should be enough.
An often-overlooked aspect when looking at pressure washers is hose length. You might not think it’s important, but when you’re trying to manoeuvre your jet cannon up a high wall or around all sides of your car, you might wish you had more length! Pressure washers need two hoses to work – a standard garden hose and a high-pressure hose. The garden hose can be any length and usually isn’t included with a pressure washer. Its function is simply to connect your pressure washer to your chosen water source. The important hose is the high-pressure hose. This will be included with your washer – it’s what carries the pressurised water from the pump to your pressure gun. A longer high-pressure hose, naturally, gives you more reach when you need it most. It gives you extra manoeuvrability to move around your target without the hose getting too tight. One of the Pro-Kleen pressure washers comes with a standard 5m hose, but if you need extra reach, go for the model with the extra-long 8m hose.
When it comes to pressure washers, the one thing you never want to compromise on is reliability. They have a tough job, and highly pressurised water jets can be hard on mechanical components. This means it’s absolutely essential to choose a robust, reliable pressure washer. Both of our pressure washer models are made with durable aluminium pump mechanisms that can cope with the extreme water pressure. Aluminium is rust- and corrosion-resistant, so it really is the premier material for the job.
Both are made with the same rugged design principles that means they’re tough on the outside, too. They’re hard-wearing and built to last, so you can always rely on them to deliver the best performance.
Your standard pressure washer settings mean you can tackle a lot of cleaning jobs with ease. Even basic washers will allow you to adjust the power of your jet stream as well as your spray pattern. This is enough to rinse clean walls, patios, and cars. However, if you want to make the most out of your pressure washer, you’ll need to make use of its attachments. Attachments alter the performance of your pressure washer to suit specific jobs, and there’s a dizzying array available. All our pressure washer kits come with a set of attachments, making them great value for money – we’ll walk you through the different options so you can choose the best one for your needs.
Snow Foam Lance
If you know you’re mainly going to use your pressure washer to clean your car, then a bundle with a snow foam lance is essential. Snow foam is a pre-wash, a cleaning formula that breaks down dirt on your car and makes your follow-up shampoo more effective. It creates a thick foam that clings to your paintwork, increasing the contact time between the detergents and the dirt. To agitate the foam liquid into its thick, clingy form, you need a snow foam lance. These lances will use your water pressure to pull the foam liquid through a wire mesh, and you need a lot of pressure to create that thick foam.
Our lances are fitted with an air intake valve and an adjustable nozzle, allowing you to fine tune its performance until it gives you the results you’re looking for.
The high-pressure cleaning power of a pressure washer is perfect for dirty patios. However, if you want a bit of precision to go with that power – for example, to clean the gaps between paving slabs – you’ll need a patio cleaner attachment. This attachment fits onto the end of your washer and directs your jet stream down onto the patio for you. This makes cleaning your patio much more convenient! It also has the added bonus of making things a little neater – the ‘hood’ of the attachment helps minimise splashes, which is ideal if you don’t want to soak the rest of your garden (or yourself).
If you need the most power you can possibly get from your washer, you need a turbo nozzle. These special nozzles focus the jet stream into a very narrow, highly-pressurised blast of water. If you’re trying to blast clean a sturdy brick wall, they can make short work of dirt, mould, moss, and other stubborn growths. However, be wary of standing too close to your target when using these nozzles. The powerful blast of water can damage your surfaces.
Sometimes, cranking up the power of your washer isn’t necessary. It can even be a bad idea, as using too much pressure can damage car paintwork and other sensitive surfaces. Luckily, brush attachments can give you a little extra cleaning power without having to turn up the pressure. They’ll let you agitate dirt while you spray, making for a quick, effective clean.
There are two kinds of brush in the kits above; a fixed brush and a rotary brush. The fixed brush is good for scrubbing patios and paving slabs as you work, while the rotary brush is more commonly used when cleaning cars. The water jet from the pressure washer causes the rotary brush to spin, which cleans and buffs your car as you go.
